The Cursor SDK lets you run Cursor agents programmatically. When you execute a task through Vibe Coding Plan with Cursor, it uses the same powerful AI agent that powers the Cursor IDE — complete with terminal access, file editing, and full codebase understanding.
How to Get Your API Key
Ensure You Have a Cursor Subscription
You need an active Cursor Pro or Business subscription. If you don't have one, sign up at cursor.com.
Go to Cursor Dashboard
Navigate to cursor.com/dashboard/integrations and sign in with your Cursor account.
Generate an API Key
Click "Create new API key" or similar. Give it a descriptive name like "Vibe Coding Plan". The key starts with cursor_.
Copy the Key
Copy the API key immediately — you may not be able to see it again after leaving the page.
Add to Vibe Coding Plan
Go to AI Integrations in your dashboard, find the Cursor card, paste your API key, and click "Save API Key".
How It Works
Cursor Agent: Tasks run through the Cursor SDK's Agent.prompt() API, which spins up a full Cursor agent with terminal, file editing, and codebase understanding.
Terminal Access: Unlike some providers, Cursor agents can execute terminal commands — run builds, install dependencies, and verify changes directly.
Cost: Task execution is covered by your Cursor subscription. No per-token charges.
Security: Your API key is encrypted and stored securely. It is only used when executing tasks in your projects.
